The original creators of Rainforest Cafe were well aware that they could well be accused of exploiting the rainforest and damaging the environment.
Although the rainforest is not badly treated everywhere, it is undoubtedly true that in many parts of the world destruction of this valuable world resource is very advanced.
Twenty years ago, tropical rainforests covered approximately 14% of our planet's land surface. Today, only about 6% remains covered.
Each year, 154,000 square kilometres of tropical forest are destroyed - this is an area equivalent to the size of England and Wales. |
In some small way we want to help those that are dedicating their lives to making our environment a better place.
The Rainforest Cafe is proud to be a major sponsor for the World Land Trust. To date, through the wishing pond and donations generated from the Coral Reef Catfish Steak dish on our menu, we have been able to purchase large areas of depleted rainforest land in Ecuador. The land purchased by Rainforest Cafe will extend the Tapichalaca Reserve located in the south-east of the country, which is so far approximately 7 times the size of Hyde Park! |

Rainforest Cafe is also proud to support smaller more community based charities and events, and to date has donated in excess of £10,000 to a variety of different schemes and requests.
